$1M in commissions in six years
And, out of that coherence—in his work systems and relationships, in his big picture and attention to detail—Mark recently earned a meaningful award. For making (his first) $1 million in commissions, he entered the global RE/MAX Hall of Fame. He earned this distinction in just six years as a broker.

Recreational property sales lead to primary home sales (not the other way around)
“I’m known as the guy in the glen,” Mark said bluntly, referring to his sales presence in the recreational mountain community called the Glen at Maple Falls, 20 minutes south of the American Canadian border crossing at Sumas and Abbotsford.
“But what people don’t see are the referrals from these rec properties,” explained Mark.
What comes out of selling park-model manufactured homes and fifth-wheels? Primary home sales.
“I just had a $800,000 closing on a primary home, for a client who first purchased a $25,000 property from me.”
AllCounty team goes to underserved areas
Behind the strategy is a principle. (Because this is Mark.)
“My team is called the AllCounty Team,” he said. “We go where other brokers may not.”
“We feel there are areas that are underserved. And we provide the same level of service for places like Glacier, Maple Falls, and the Glen that people would receive anywhere else.”
As managing broker, Mark explained that because properties in these areas are often second and third homes, getaways for families, he can set commission minimums. “On a $25,000 sale, you can set a minimum commission—because buyers and sellers want our known level of service and expertise.”
Whatcom County is known as the Fourth Corner of the US (Maine, Florida, and Baja being the other three). And out of the corners in our Fourth Corner, come more sales—and higher property values—because of Mark’s team.
This is a team win
A hallmark of a top broker? Mark talks more readily about his team’s shared approach than his recent award.
“I’ve got the best buyer’s agent in Brian Hefter,” he said. “Julie, my wife, is team manager, and Shayla Lerner handles all systems, from client calls to marketing. When we go to contract, our transaction coordinators [well-respected Lindsey and Josh Bavaro] make sure everything is done right.”
“We’re swamped, and we’re looking for another broker,” explained Mark. “But I’m not just going to add a warm body. Our team works seamlessly, and we run together.”
Of course, he also cites the culture of continuous learning, led by founder and CEO Lori Reece, for the reason he is with RE/MAX Whatcom County. “I’m surrounded by my own team of experts and constantly inspired by my larger RE/MAX family,” said Mark.
The Hall of Fame is a win for him, for his team, and, of course, for all of us who revere Mark’s work, which makes our corner of the world—the Fourth Corner—a better place to be.

Mark earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Societies at the University of Washington. Years of experience in managing construction and insurance companies honed his project management and communication skills. Mark also regularly volunteers at the Bellingham Food Bank.
